Karns City Communities That Care (CTC) is committed to building a stronger, healthier future for youth and families across the Karns City Area School District. Since 2016, we have worked closely with Karns City Area School District and partner agencies throughout Butler County to deliver prevention programs, resources, and meaningful support to students and families.

The Communities That Care (CTC) model utilizes a community‑driven, science‑based prevention system to identify risks early, mobilize community partners, and implement proven programs that build protection around young people before unhealthy behaviors escalate. Our work is guided by Pennsylvania Youth Survey (PAYS) data, which helps us understand local risk and protective factors and tailor programming to the needs of our youth. Beyond prevention programming, we also work to identify and fill gaps within our community, offering initiatives that provide direct support to students and families throughout the district. The PAYS Data is administered every other year to students in 6th, 8th, 10th, and 12th grade to evaluate risk and protective factors in our school and community. We use this data to help steer evidence-based and evidence-informed programming and also find the root causes of these behaviors through an upstream prevention method.
